Kybella is an effective, nonsurgical injection technique which is used to reduce excess fat from beneath the chin. Though these same trials concluded the injections to be safe, significant improvement and satisfaction with their appearance was had by about 82% of the patience in clinical trials. With this in mind, we at Open Door Med Spa would like to take the opportunity to elaborate on Kybella injections.

How Kybella Works

Kybella is a nonsurgical injectable technique designed to target the fat beneath the chin. The process uses a series of deoxycholic acid injections in order to target the fat cells in this area. In most cases, as incisions are not required, the downtime is minimal. Candidates are likely to have moderate to severe fat under the chin and be over the age of 18. If you are pregnant, nursing or experiencing an infection or has a medical condition near the injection site are not candidates, or should be planning to have facial surgery, experiencing trouble swallowing. Being a nonsurgical procedure, there is little preparation required for Kybella. To prevent post-treatment bruising, avoid ibuprofen and acetaminophen, and reduce skin infection by properly washing your face before the procedure. To help absorb fat is a bile acid known as deoxycholic acid, naturally produced by your body. Found in Kybella injections, a synthetic form of this is used in these injections. The acid destroys fat cells beneath the chin area once it is injected to stop storing the fat. Being that it is important a healthcare professional administers your Kybella injections since deoxycholic acid can kill other cells in the process.

Kybella Procedure

The medical practitioner marks the injection sites with a marker before the procedure, generally. To ease any pain or discomfort, some may administer a topical numbing agent or ice pack. The average needs 20-30 injections and may take up to 50 injections used under the chin as the acid works gradually to kill fat cells, metabolizes by the body over the following weeks. The number of the treatments vary to the individual. It can take multiple treatments to reach optimal results. You can receive up to six Kybella treatments with at least one month between each session.

Kybella Side Effects & Recovery

As a side effect from these nonsurgical Kybella treatments, pain, swelling, bruising, redness, and numbness can be experienced typically. The recovery is minimal, and the downtown can vary in most cases. The minor effects subside within one to two weeks. More severe side effects can include uneven smile, nerve injury in the jaw, facial muscle weakness, and/or trouble swallowing. If any of the serious side effects occur, call your healthcare provider, any discomfort should be discussed with your professional.
