There are more than likely several areas on your body that you would like to get rid of unwanted hair. While there are several methods out there that can help you achieve this, only one of them is a completely permanent solution to your unwanted hair and that’s laser hair removal. For some people, the only thing that is holding them back from getting it done is the thought that the process may be painful. Open Door Med Spa is here to talk about laser hair removal and how the process works as well as whether or not you should be worried about the pain of the procedure.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal is the process in which hair is permanently removed from someone’s skin. This is done using selective photo thermolysis. The laser sends a light pulse targeting the pigment in the hair to remove it. Using thermal energy, the follicle is damaged and the blood vessel feeding it will be cauterized. Once it is damaged and there is no blood vessel feeding it, the hair is unable to grow. For best laser hair removal results, patients should shave their hair before the appointment. When the hair is long, it can be less effective at removing the hair completely. It is also important to note that laser hair removal isn’t just a one appointment procedure. It is usually 6-8 appointments with a decrease of about 20% of the hair each time. Once you have finished your treatments, the hair will be gone permanently.
How Painful is Laser Hair Removal
If you think about all the methods that are used to remove hair, none of them are actually a pleasurable experience. Waxing, sugaring and electrolysis are all extremely painful hair removal treatments. While laser hair removal may be an uncomfortable procedure, it isn’t something that is considered painful. Many patients compare the experience to the feeling you have when you experience static electricity. Your technician can adjust the intensity if you feel that it is too much for you to handle.
Does Laser Hair Removal Make Your Skin Sensitive?
For those that are hesitant to have laser hair removal because they have sensitive skin, this isn’t something that you should be concerned about. As mentioned above, your hair removal technician has control over the intensity of the treatment depending on your pain tolerance. There are also anesthetic creams that can be used to help dull the pain if you feel that it is too much for you.
