For some, the battle against acne is much greater than it is for others. Acne can be the result of poor hygiene, diet, hormonal changes, stress, medical conditions and medication. In some cases a few life changing habits help reduce and prevent acne while other times you may need more extreme forms of treatment. For those who have had acne and want to rid their skin of the resulting pimples, Open Door Med Spa will share how acne is treated and tips on controlling your acne problem.
What are the 4 Types of Acne?
There are four different types of acne. There are whiteheads, which is a closed, clogged pore. Blackheads are opened clogged pores. Then there are papules which are the red and tender bumps on the surface of the skin. Lastly, there is pimples or pustules which is a papules with pus and the tip. Acne can be caused by excessive oily skin, and a hair follicle is clogged by either oil or dead skin cells as well as by bacteria. Knowing the types and common causes of acne will better help you understand what you must do to combat this skin condition.
Lifestyle Changes to Keep Acne at Bay
There are a few daily habits you can do to better control acne. Let’s start with washing your face twice a day. You will want to wash your face in the morning and at night. To wash your face properly you will want to wet your face with warm water and not hot. Apply a mild face cleanser using your fingers. Never use a wash cloth as they are often the site of bacteria which will worsen the acne. Rinse your face and pat your face dry with a clean cloth. With proper face washing techniques you are on your way to combating acne. (Note: If you have dry skin avoid using alcohol cleansers, use an alcohol free face cleanser instead.) After washing your face you will want to moisturize the skin. Be careful which moisturizer you use. For those with oily skin you do not need more oil, look for a fragrance-free and a noncomedogenic moisturizer. Some other daily habits you will want to implement is to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. When you are dehydrated your skin will trigger more oil to secrete to your glands which contribute to more acne. Next, watch your diet, certain foods can cause acne. To help combat acne try to avoid high glycemic foods and beverages. Some other life changes may involve wearing less or certain types of makeup. Avoid too much sun and light exposure and try not to touch your face. Your hands are full of bacteria and when you touch your face you transfer the bacteria to your already sensitive skin.
Is There a Medical Procedure or Treatment for Acne?
When simple life changes and better daily habits is not enough, you may want to seek more intense treatments for your skin. One treatment option is a chemical peel. A chemical peel can help reduce acne by deep cleaning the pores. Not only does chemical peels help treat acne, but it can also help reduce the appearance of acne scars.
