Have you ever waxed your upper lip or your bikini line to find that it is followed by obnoxious pimples the next day? No one wants to remove hair only to replace it will small red pimples all over your skin. While this can be irritating, many people experience it after getting waxed. The reason this happens so often is because not only will the wax remove unwanted hair, but it also removes the top layer of your skin. This leaves your skin vulnerable and susceptible to bacteria and infections. Open Door Med Spa is here to share some tips to help you avoid breakouts after you have had some waxing done.

Clean & Gently Exfoliate Your Skin Before Waxing

Before going to your waxing appointment, make sure your skin is clean and has been gently exfoliated. If you aren’t going to your appointment from home and are leaving work or other activities to get your waxing done, consider putting a face cleansing wipe in your purse that you can use quickly before you get any waxing done. Look for face cleansing wipes that also exfoliate the skin as well as clean it for best results.

Can Witch Hazel Be Used on Freshly Waxed Skin

As soon as you leave your appointment and get home, use some witch hazel on the area that has been waxed. This is an antiseptic as well as a soothing solution to help keep the area clean as well as calm down your skin. You should absolutely avoid touching your skin with your hands right after you have had the area waxed.

Should You Ice Cubes After Waxing?

It isn’t uncommon for the skin to be irritated. This could mean that you have some areas where the skin is raised up and some inflammation is happening. Don’t hesitate to use ice to help bring down the inflammation after getting waxed. If the skin is extremely irritated, you can also use hydrocortisone cream as well to help.

What Clothes to Wear after Wax?

Within 48 hours of getting waxed, you should avoid heat like baths, saunas and extreme sunlight. You should also try to avoid wearing any restrictive clothing that doesn’t allow the area to breath like leggings or tight underwear. Remember, this skin is more vulnerable to irritation and infection and needs to be able to breathe.

Exfoliate Skin Regularly

Once your skin has seemingly calmed down, it’s time to exfoliate on a regular basis to help you prevent future breakouts as well. Using a gently scrub or loofah, you can remove the buildup in your pores that is the culprit and causes breakouts.
